Youth Tourism Discussion Groups

Tourism Youth Discussions is a dynamic youth engagement and capacity-building program by Uncovered Travel Initiative Africa, designed to inspire, equip, and connect the next generation of tourism professionals across Uganda and Africa.

Through interactive trainings hosted in universities and youth spaces, the program creates awareness about the value of tourism, promotes appreciation of local destinations, and equips young people with practical skills in travel writing, digital marketing, and tourism storytelling. These sessions are designed not only to educate, but to ignite passion and purpose among youth interested in building careers within the tourism sector.

At the heart of the initiative are youth tourism discussion groups—small, structured communities formed after each training. These groups serve as entry points into the industry, where young people engage in continuous learning, share ideas, explore opportunities, and collaborate on innovative tourism solutions. Through these groups, participants are mentored, guided, and connected to job opportunities, industry networks, and real-world experiences that support their professional growth.

The program also draws in talent from the annual Travel Writing Competition, which attracts over 500 submissions from across Africa each year. By bringing together these creative and passionate individuals, Tourism Youth Discussions creates a powerful network of young thinkers and storytellers who are actively shaping new narratives and ideas for the future of tourism.

More than just a training program, Tourism Youth Discussions is a growing movement that nurtures talent, builds careers, and empowers young people to take an active role in reimagining and advancing Africa’s tourism sector.
